The new landlord, Darren Ketley is the new owner of the Old Crown, as Martin Francis has now departed. Darren is also the owner of the DIY shop in Bookham. Darren only reopened on the Wednesday, and we used the restaurant space for our games night. Darren worked four days solid so that the Old Crown could be opened on the Wednesday. That is Darren Ketley in the picture in the middle, and from left to right it is Steve Westlake, a Velo fellow, Chairman of the Velo fellows, Darren Ketley, Dave Gibson, and Geoff Cole. The Norton 650ss is owned by our very own Peter Ashby.
If the Surrey section had lost we would have forfeited the trophy but we won this time beating the Velo fellows 7 to 3. At 8.40 we the Surrey section were winning 3.0. There was a very tense game of Jenga, with Geoff Cole, and Steve Westlake, and as the blocks kept rising slowly upwards, as Geoff and Steve dexterously removed the blocks to the top of the pile. The column moved steadily higher to the amazement of those looking intently on. Eventually the Velo Fellows prevailed and they won the game. At 9.20 is was 5-3 to the Surrey section. There was also a table football game that was provided by Ken Rawlinson, and we managed to get it into the back of my estate car to get it to Bookham. Ken also brought along a shove halfpenny game. The football table had to be assembled and then dismantled at the end of the night at 9.30.
Dave Gibson's wife very kindly provided all those present with some very nice nibbles for us all to eat, as Darren did not have the kitchen up and running at the time. The section has ALSO had some polo shirt made, so allot of the members were wearing them, and they are a very distinctive look for the Surrey section.
