Post The Old Crown in Bookham - is it an improvement?

Since the news came in that we were moving our meeting venue to The Old Crown in Bookham, I've been busy googling the pub to try and find out more about it. It seems that the pub was at a fairly low ebb before the current landlords arrived and they have been making great efforts to improve it.

The Velocette Club meet there on the first Wednesday of each month so knowing how those guys like a beer it can't be too bad! A couple of very positive things are that we can leave our bikes out the front of the pub and that we'll have our own meeting room which won't be affected (so much) by the noise from the Bar. 😉

The room we have for our meeting is used on the other nights of the week as a restaurant. It opened its doors for a "test" run with locals invited for a sampling evening this Wednesday. The Committee were gathered round a table out the front having our monthly meeting to discuss plans for the forthcomming wekks and months when the landlord asked if we would all like to sample the new cuisine. We were privelidged to be amongst the first in the area to sample the new head chef David Gillot's inspirational creations. I shall certainly be heading over there on a non-club night to try some of the other dishes he will be creating. - Some of the items on the planned new menu will be :
STARTERS
Wild Mushroom Soup in white truffle oil
Slow cooked Camembert - Artisan Bread, Chutney, Oils (to share)
Ham Hock Terrine - picalilli and toasted brioche
MAINS
Classic Fish and Chips - Mushy Peas Lemon, Tartar Sauce
Risotto - slow roasted red peppers, chilli oil
Bangers & Mash - Effingham Sausage, Grain Mustard mash & caramalised onion gravy
8oz Beef Burger - Mature Cheddar & Smoked back bacon with thick cut chips and choice of condiments
10oz horseshoe gammon steak - fried eggs and pineapple, thick cut chips, crushed garden peas.
DESSERTS
Chocolate marbled brownie - farmhouse vanilla ice cream
Sticky Toffee, Date & Walnut Pudding - vanilla creme fraiche
