“In the spring of 2009 I went over to see Neville Lewis the owner of Surrey Cycles to buy some GP spare parts for a bike I was rebuilding and knowing him quite well made the statement ” ain’t a bad business you have” which he replied “its yours if you want it!”. After surprising Carol with the news of this golden opportunity we leapt at it and 4 years later have never regretted our decision. We have kept the mail order side of the business going and developed the shows. In all we do about 20 shows a year around the country from Stafford to Shepton Mallet, Netley Marsh etc and never tire of chatting to all the great characters and listening to their banter.
I’ve been in engineering all my life and still have fond memories of my first Fanny Barnet 197 trials but a little envious during my Apprentice Toolmaking years of the guys riding BSA Goldstars, I fell in love with them immediately and have been fortunate to restore probably about 10 now and all enjoying a second lease of life.
During our 42 years marriage I have always had an assortment of british bikes but my love still is with Goldies, RGS and Tritons, but still appreciate the Nortons, Vincents, Royal Enfields. Carol bit the bullet and after riding for several years on her beloved Ducati 900ss and BMW Sports succumbed to wanting to have a british bike. I built a Triton for her but alas it didn’t quite suit her riding style, the wide frame was probably not a good idea.
We are both looking forward to meeting you all.
