Chairman’s Chatter – SNOC News Update February 2023.
Well done to everybody who managed to make the fantastic SNOC Games Night that was held in January at the Stepping Stones. It was great to see so many people having such good fun. Win or lose, there were smiling faces all evening. The SNOC teams hammered the opposition and took the Games Trophy yet again. As an extra side event to that evening, Henry Dulat asked for £180 in donations towards purchasing a generator that was to be sent to the Ukraine. Within minutes, Henry had a pot full of money that he personally topped up to meet the required cash total. No sooner had this happened than a second generator was donated free by our own Mike Duffell . This too is now on its way to helping provide power in that devastated country. Well done everybody. Great generosity!!!
Since my last posting, a well-attended AGM has taken place. Once again, the Committee reported a range of successful SNOC promoted 2022 events which included two Ardingly displays, a display at Warlingham Rugby Club plus an inaugural display at the Hayes Village Fair. The latter enjoying a sunny day that drew huge number of visitors of all ages. The response to the SNOC line-up of Nortons was just terrific and the show organisers have asked us to return this year for a repeat display of our bikes.
Returning to the November 2022 AGM, four of the Committee Officers were re-elected but Ken Rawlinson, the Branch Treasurer and Secretary decided to step down and hand over his responsibilities to Howard Robinson and Dave Cooper. All of the Committee past and present were thanked for their efforts, especially as Covid was still making its presence felt up and down the UK. Also given mega thanks were the small army of helpers who frequently donate their time and effort into helping organise and man most SNOC displays.
If the emailing system to members has worked, in your favour, then you should have received a calendar of 2023 events that SNOC will be supporting or the Committee recommends you consider attending. There is a wide range of activities and not all are centred around motorcycles.
In the near future we are having a ‘Drink & Natter’ night at the Stones on 14th February. This being an opportunity to have a relaxing time in the company of other SNOC members and also chat with Committee Officers about Club related issues such as future events.
March 26th 2023 sees the first of the big Ardingly Classic Bike Shows. SNOC will support this event with a display of racing Nortons, Cafe Race bikes and any other members machines that have booked in to attend this event. Any 650 and 750 Norton Dominator and Hybrids would also be particularly welcome as 2023 is their 60th anniversary year.
For the April 11th 2023 monthly meet, we have invited Julie Diplock to give a talk about organising ELK auto-jumbles, plus her interest in Nortons and motorcycles in general.
Suggestions for other events that you feel would be of interest to other SNOC members are most welcome. Just let us know when and where they are being held. Also keep an ear open for any Branch rides that are taking place. These are generally weather dependent and preferably held on bike friendly days.
Phil Hannam
SNOC Chairman
