Surrey Section Quiz Night with the Velocette Owners Club – 4 February 2019
Surrey Section Quiz Night, with the Velocette Owners Club on the 4 February 2019
The Surrey section held a quiz night with the Velocette Owners Club on the Monday, and this was not our regular club night, which is normally on a Wednesday. We had 55 members, from both of our clubs as well as guests and partners. It was film and motorcycle quiz. There were six question groups on a sheet,
Paul Gibbons did an outstanding job of setting the questions, as well as organising it all for us. We had two pictures quizzes and also a general knowledge page of questions. It must have taken a huge amount of work on behalf of Paul to make the evening a total success. He was very ably assisted by Juge, who went around and collected all the papers to mark them, so that we could get the some totals from all our efforts. We were all in teams of four and our teams were given their names, taken from the models names of the bikes in our clubs. Hence the Dominators, Thruxton’s etc. The Velo fellows won by a score of 258 to 237.
The club arranged for a buffet for all those that attended, and we raised over £70 for the Kent and Surrey Air Ambulance. We are hoping that we will be able to have a similar quiz night later in the year.
On Monday the 11th March when the famous Geoff Dodkin will be giving a talk at the Velo OC night, I will be encouraging our SNOC members to come along to this, as it should be most interesting.
We have discussed with David Catt the VOC chairman, and we will be arranging a breakfast run to Newlands Corner in early March and this will be just by selecting a date (possibly a Wednesday) and just telling everyone and going for it. We will also be arranging another run one Wednesday for a ride out to Jack’s café.
The Surrey section will also be having a stand at the Ardingly, Elk promotions Classic Motorcycle show on the 31st March. We shall be celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Norton Dominator, and all those with Dominator twins are very welcome to exhibit their bikes on the Surrey section stand. Julie Diplock the organiser of Elk promotions and of these events has allocated us a huge amount space for our stand, in the exhibition hall for this Norton Extravaganza.
