Warlingham Rugby Club Classic Car & Bike show 17 July 2016

Surrey Section at the Warlingham Rugby Club Classic Car & Bike show 17 July 2016

The Surrey section had a stand at the Warlingham Rugby Club Classic Car and Bike show on Sunday 17 July 2016. This show is located on the Limpsfield Road CR6 9RB, and it was open to the public from 12 midday till 5pm. There were side stalls, BBQ the clubhouse bar, and an outside bar, with live music and a kiddie’s fun fair. There was some thing for all the family. This show was raising money for Cancer Research UK. The show was organized by Steve Wakeman of the WRC and his incredible team of helpers who made this a very memorable day for every one who attended as visitor or to display their bike of car. Those that helped with the show were very efficient and they made this event run so smoothly and it ran like a very well oiled machine. At this show there was some thing for every one for either the bike of car enthusiast, to look at, and would want to own. There was a particular car a 1968 Dodge Charger that had printed in white of the side back window, that said, “It is not for sale and any way it is too fast for you” that car was bad to the bone, and that comment made me laugh as I walked by.

Our very own Simon Smith was looking at a 1965 Ford Mustang with a 289 ci engine that the owner had for sale. Simon and I went to have a look and had a good look at it, but sadly some one else saw how good it was and bought this pony car before Simon could.

The Surrey section arrived at about 10.30, and Mike Duffel brought along the marquee and all the equipment as well as the chairs, table and of course the biscuits. Paul Gibbons brought along a stove, kettle and some water so those that came along could have either tea of coffee as well as some extra chairs on the back of his Commando. Mike Duffell supplied the biscuits for all those members. Being a very well organised section it all went to plan and all our members present were in many animated discussions with those that came over to visit us, and discuss their past ownership of a Norton. Mike Duffell’s Manx Norton came in for allot of attention with many pictures being taken, and allot of very covetous looks from those that came by to visit us with many a picture being taken.

There was vintage, classic American, cars, trucks, van and bikes all at this show. The Surrey section had our marquee at this event and we had seven bikes that members brought along to attend this event. We had many members of the public come over and admire the Norton’s on display, as well as our own Geoff Cole our treasurer helping prospective members about joining the main club and also the Surrey section.

Those that brought along their bikes were

Dave Cooper         1937 Norton 16H

Harry Smith          1973 Commando 850 Mark 3 Interstate

Paul Gibbons        1973 Commando 850 Roadster

Simon Smith          1973 Commando 750Roadster

Mike Duffell           1953 Ex Des Craig Model 40 35Ccc Manx Norton

Geoff Cole              1969 Commando 750

James                     1973 Commando

Anthony Curzon   1974 Chevrolet Z28 Camaro

James I do not know his surname came to the show and asked to be able to put his bike on our stand and to this we readily agreed.

The Surrey section was also awarded the best club stand trophy and that is some trophy that WRC has awarded us. Steve Wakeman came over to see us, and thanked us for our participation. We all rocked it totally and can I thank all those that came along and participated in this truly amazing event. For those that need to know such things the next WRC Classic show will be on Sunday 16 July 2017.

The Surrey section will be attending the Capel Show on 20 August 2016, the South of England Classic Show on 23 October 2016. We have many more speakers arranged for our club nights and that font of all knowledge of Norton twins Phil Hamann has agreed to come back and give us another talk as he has updated his knowledge to add some more Dominator details to his next talk. This we shall be announcing at a future date. We have also got some more talks planed by some ex factory personnel and I am trying to obtain some one who is very much part of the Norton world if he would be so kind as to come along to give us a talk at our club night. Fortune favours the brave so I intend to try.
